Voorhees celebrates second Meet and Greet Brunch

Denmark, S.C.- Voorhees College recently held its second Meet and Greet Brunch with the Faith-Based Community, where Dr. W. Franklin Evans, ninth president and CEO, had the opportunity to invite several local pastors and church representatives to campus to continue building church relations. The brunch began with opening remarks from Evans where he mentioned the significance of the church and education.“Voorhees College understands the importance of a faith-based community. As we are episcopal-affiliated, we welcome any opportunity to work with all churches for the benefit of our students and community efforts,” Evans said. “This is our second year hosting a brunch and it was a pleasure meeting with church officials to gain additional support.”During the event, Dr. Gwynth R. Nelson, vice president for the Division of Institutional Advancement and Development, made a church appeal in support of the institution’s $1,000 per church annual giving goal. “We are asking each church in the area to make a $1,000 annual pledge to Voorhees College. A thousand dollars on average for our institution is the deciding factor between whether a student who is financially challenged can continue to the next semester,” Nelson said. “It is our hope that churches will continue supporting us as we support them. Our students need just as much spiritual guidance as academics.Sarah Simpson, development officer for church relations, said the event turned out to be a great success.“Our goal is to grow the brunch participation each year. It was nice to see some familiar faces this year as well as some new ones. We have so much in store for the future of Voorhees and church relations and the sky is the limit,” Simpson said. The brunch concluded with a tour of the Voorhees College Historical Museum, which is located in theWright-Potts Library. For more information, contact the Office of Communications, at 803-780-1191 or at
