Allen University to host the first WIS-TV debate for U.S. Senate between Jamie Harrison and Lindsey Graham

(Columbia, S.C.) –WIS-TV has selected Allen University as the host site for the first debate for U.S. Senate between Democratic nominee Jamie Harrison and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. The debate will take place in the historic Chapelle Auditorium on the campus of Allen University at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. The event will be closed to the public due to COVID-19 and televised live across the state.

“At Allen University we teach the minds to think and we have a history of being a place where tough conversations can be had. We gladly open our doors to host the debate in conjunction with WIS-TV,” said Dub Taylor, vice president for institutional advancement. “As we prepare to open the Institute for Civility, a place for civil discourse, as a part of the historic Waverly Hospital Restoration and Expansion Project, we anticipate more of these events to come in the future.”

The debate will be televised state-wide on the following channels that cover South Carolina.

  • WIS-TV – Columbia
  • WYFF – Greenville
  • WMBF – Myrtle Beach
  • WCSC – Charleston
  • WTOC – Savannah/Beaufort
  • WRDW – Augusta/Aiken

“This debate will be the first time the two candidates vying to represent the State of South Carolina will meet head to head,” said Lyle Schulze, vice president and general manager of WIS-TV. “This year’s race is really heating up as Harrison, a former aide to Representative James Clyburn, is seeking to unseat Graham, who is asking voters to send him back to Washington for a fourth term. October 3 will be the first time the candidates will meet and discuss the issues face to face.”

WIS-TV is partnering with sister Gray stations in South Carolina and the State Newspaper for the event.
