Columbia, S.C. – The Benedict College Honda All-Star Challenge (HCASC) Team will be the only South Carolina HBCU competing for the National Championships in California from April 11-14.
Benedict traveled to Winston-Salem State University, February 20-2, and competed against teams from South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky and North Carolina to earn their second consecutive trip to the championship tournament.
“Our students represented Benedict College with professionalism, critical thinking, and teamwork,” said Dr. Kimberly Singletary, advisor for the HCASC program. “Advancing to the playoff round in a national competition is a significant achievement, and while the final result was decided by a narrow margin, the experience will fuel our students’ growth and ambition for the National Championship Tournament.”
The team consists of Captain Omario Guscott, junior, from Portland, Jamaica; Robert Hamilton, junior, from Portland, Jamaica; Trissania Lawrence, senior from Clarendon, Jamaica; and Kadine Beckford, junior from Portland, Jamaica.
Dr. George Devlin, associate vice president for Academic Affairs, says “We are immensely proud and appreciative that the Benedict College HCASC Team will return to the National Championships. This is a major milestone achievement for the Honors Program and Benedict College to be the only HBCU in South Carolina to represent the state. This accomplishment is a testament to the execution of a strategic plan for excellence from the team members, Dr. Singletary, Coach; Alton Mosley, Assistant; and all others who contributed.”
During the 2025 competitions, the team showcased a remarkable performance, winning every match in a scrimmage held on Monday, November 10, at the Honda Plant in Timmonsville, South Carolina. The Tigers faced Allen University and Voorhees University, emerging undefeated and exemplifying the academic excellence that defines our program. Each participating team demonstrated remarkable skill and commitment, underscoring the spirit of achievement that drives our HCASC community.
