PLAYERS OF THE WEEK For the games March 6, 2022
FOOD LION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#9 Nevaeh Johnson, Virginia Union
(So, 3B – Baltimore, MD)
In five games, Johnson went 7-for-13 with a home run and two doubles. The sophomore from Baltimore, MD drove in five runs and finished with a .923 slugging percentage for the week. Johnson also registered two stolen bases and scored three runs to help the Panthers finish 3-1 on the week with a win over Mercy College and a sweep of Washington Adventist.
FOOD LION PITCHER OF THE WEEK
#23 Dominique Mulero, Virginia Union
(Gr, P – Chatham, VA)
In three appearances on the mound, Mulero finished with a 1-1 record and registered a save, helping VUU to wins over Mercy and Washington Adventist. The Chatham, VA native strikeout five batters and finished with a 3.00 earned run average for the week. Mulero also registered five hits with a home run and two runs batted in from the plate.
FOOD LION DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK#10 Kayla Evans, Bowie State (Fr, SS – Bridgeville, DE) Evans recorded 10 putouts and 13 assists in 25 attempts over six games. The freshman shortstop finished with a .920 fielding percentage, helping the Bulldogs to a 13-9 win over Mansfield. |
FOOD LION ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#20 Saniya Jones, Bowie State
(Fr, 2B – Louisa, VA)
Jones tallied six hits, including a home run (2) and a double, with a .353 batting average and a .588 slugging percentage over six games. The freshman second baseman drove in four runs and scored two more while also recording a stolen base. Defensively, Jones registered eight putouts and four assists for the week as BSU recorded a win over Mansfield.
