FOOD LION MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK


#22 Jaylon Gibson, Winston-Salem State
(Jr., 6-10 Forward/Center – Zebulon, NC)


Jaylon Gibson led the game with 25 points and 11 rebounds (his second double-double of the season) in a 86-59 win over Clark Atlanta last week. The junior went 9-of-14 from the field and 7-of-10 on free throws. The Zebulon, NC native also added two blocks, a steal, and an assist in the victory.


FOOD LION MEN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK


#5 Jailen Williams, Claflin
(Jr., 6-0 Guard – Salisbury, NC)

In close wins over Paine and Shaw last week, Jailen Williams totaled 20 rebounds, 18 points, eight assists, and five steals. Against Paine College, the junior helped the Panthers overcome a 25-point deficit with under 11 minutes remaining in the second half. The guard scored four points in the overtime period and finished with 12 points total, with 12 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Tied at 76 in that game with 34 seconds left, the Salisbury, NC native earned a steal and a layup before the Lions forced overtime. In the conference win over the Bears, Williams finished with eight rebounds, six points, two assists, and two steals.
FOOD LION MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK


#25 Jacory Wilkes, Bowie State
(Fr., 6-6 Forward – Silver Spring, MD)


Against Augusta, the 13th-ranked team in the nation, Jacory Wilkes registered new career highs of 12 points, four rebounds, and six-of-eight shooting from the field in the tough 73-70 loss last week. 
FOOD LION WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK


#0 Lauren Scott, Claflin
(So., 5-8 Guard – Columbia, SC)


In wins over Paine and Shaw last week, Lauren Scott averaged 21.5 points and four rebounds per game on 52 percent shooting from the field (14-of-27) and 50 percent from three (8-of-16). The sophomore had 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 19 minutes against the Lions and 22 points while making 5-of-11 threes versus the Bears.

#1 Nya Morris, Claflin

(So., 5-9 Guard – Pittsburgh, PA)


Nya Morris averaged 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 steals on 50 percent shooting from the field in a pair of victories over Paine and Shaw. In the win over the Lions, the sophomore scored 15 points with eight rebounds and four steals, plus seven assists. The Pittsburgh, PA native logged 19 points, eight rebounds, and a steal in the conference win over the Bears.

#4 Najah Lane, Johnson C. Smith

(Fr., 5-6 Guard – Charlotte, NC)


In last week’s game against NCAA Division I Appalachian State, Najah Lane scored a game-high 17 points. 17 points also tie a career-high for the Charlotte, NC native.
