Delaware State Advances in MEAC Softball Tournament with 4-1 Win Over South Carolina State

NORFOLK, Va. — No. 3 seed Delaware State opened the 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Tournament with a 4-1 victory over sixth-seeded South Carolina State on Wednesday morning. With the win, the Hornets move on to face No. 2 seed Norfolk State in the 5 p.m. winners bracket game.

The contest remained scoreless through the first four innings in a defensive showdown. South Carolina State broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth when Jamaria Charley scored during Kaylah Leslie’s at-bat to give the Lady Bulldogs a brief 1-0 lead.

Delaware State responded swiftly in the bottom half of the inning. Bria Sewell reached on a single, setting the stage for Mi’Shon King. King launched a two-run homer over the centerfield fence to give the Hornets a 2-1 edge.

The Hornets extended their lead in the sixth as Mianna Lopez scored on an RBI groundout by Annalisse Santana. Chandler Martin delivered a two-out single to right field to drive in Emma Crowe, pushing the score to 4-1.

Delaware State retired S.C. State in order in the top of the seventh to seal the win and advance in the tournament.
