Dr. Howard Gibson Selected as Lincoln University of Missouri Dean
JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Lincoln University of Missouri has selected Dr. Howard O. Gibson as the dean of University College and associate provost of undergraduate education, a position he will begin remotely on June 17 and on campus July 1.
Lincoln’s University College aims to elevate the first-year experience through enhanced academic advising and support services, ensuring that students receive the resources they need to thrive academically from the outset. As the founding dean, Dr. Gibson will lead the development of University College, a crucial division dedicated to providing comprehensive academic support and guidance for undergraduate students. Under his leadership, initiatives will be implemented to strengthen first-year academic advising and support services, creating a nurturing environment conducive to student success.
Additionally, Dr. Gibson will oversee key programs including the Honors Program, Undergraduate Research, Civic Engagement & Leadership, Career Services and International Education & Study Abroad, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching educational experience for all students.
Dr. Gibson brings over 25 years of diverse experience in corporate and higher education settings, spanning teaching, administration and executive leadership roles across public and private institutions. With expertise in areas such as financial services, academic affairs, student support and entrepreneurship education, Dr. Gibson has demonstrated a keen ability to adapt to dynamic environments and meet the needs of diverse student populations. His extensive career includes notable achievements such as securing long-term accreditations for institutions, establishing graduate programs and receiving prestigious awards for his contributions to education. Dr. Gibson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, an MBA and a Doctor of Philosophy in urban higher education, all from Jackson State University.
