Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson will appear at JSU’s First Lady’s Scholarship Luncheon

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Successful entrepreneur and NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson will make a special appearance at Jackson State University for the 2019 First Lady’s Scholarship Luncheon hosted by Deborah E. Bynum, wife of JSU President William B. Bynum Jr. at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the downtown Jackson Convention Complex. During his JSU visit, Johnson will meet with students and SodexoMAGIC personnel. The event to help “well-deserving students” also will feature keynote speaker and Tennessee State University President Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover. Proceeds from the luncheon “will help our students tackle the financial obstacles that they face,” Deborah Bynum said. Johnson is chairman and CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises (MJE). The company provides high-quality products and services that focus primarily on ethnically diverse and underserved urban communities through strategic alliances, investments, consulting and endorsements.In 2006, MJE partnered with Sodexo, which brands itself as a Quality of Life Service operation. Collaboratively, Johnson formed a food service and facilities management company called SodexoMAGIC. It provides dining and catering services throughout JSU’s campuses.
