FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF A SEASONED COUNSEL
After several years at Broward Community College, Miller is ready for Miami’s HBCU.
Miami Garden, FL, March 20, 2020- Sonya Audria Miller, Esq. obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Emory University (1994) and her Juris Doctor degree from Temple University School of Law (1997). Most recently, she served Broward College (2011-2020) as its Deputy General Counsel. She began her career as a federal trial attorney then transitioned to civil practice in both the government and private sectors. Eventually, she became in-house counsel for a private company and then went on to Ryder System, Inc. in Miami where she served as a Compliance Manager and then Employment Law Counsel.
During her tenure at Broward College she provided high level professional service on a wide range of legal and compliance matters, including but not limited to labor and employment law, open meetings, public records, and ethics laws, discrimination complaints, faculty issues, compliance matters, intellectual property, real property, policies and procedures, student issues and contractual matters. Ms. Miller chaired the Compliance Committee, which later grew to become the Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management Committee, of which she served as Co-Chair. The Committee was instrumental in instituting a legal and compliance hotline as well as upgrading online legal training and programs. She worked across the organization to create and modify protocols, practices and procedures to conform with legal requirements, policies and procedures.
