HU School of Pharmacy and NPS Gift Scholarships to ‘Gentlemen in White Coats’ Students

Hampton University’s School of Pharmacy, in partnership with Norfolk Public Schools, has awarded four $750 scholarships to students who attend Norfolk Technical Center, and have been attending workshops in the “Gentlemen in White Coats” program.

“Gentlemen in White Coats” is a community service program that works to teach meaningful career and higher education planning to Norfolk Public School students at the Norfolk Technical Center (NTC). This program was originally started by a Hampton University doctoral student, Brandon Jones, who wanted to support and mentor students, and help inspire them to dream big.

“The fact that this young man took the initiative to start a program to help youth succeed in work and life is truly inspiring,” said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. “Congratulations to the men who are receiving these scholarships, I wish you luck and great success and I remind you to dream no small dreams.”

In an awards ceremony held at NTC on May 23, 2018, four students were given scholarships that were donated by an anonymous Rite Aid Pharmacist. All four students have been attending the “Gentlemen in White Coats” workshops for the past two years. The workshops focus not only on Pharmacy and becoming a doctor, but on several life skills and knowledge that include resume writing, financial aid and scholarships, interview skills, public speaking, and more.

“I am truly proud of the accomplishments of our students, and appreciate their commitment to give back,” said Dr. Anand Iyer, Dean of the Hampton University School of Pharmacy. “It is truly a blessing to have such dedicated students, and I wish them continued success.”
