Hampton University Student Spending the Summer as NFL Intern

HAMPTON, Va. (July 17, 2019) –Hampton University student, Ka’ena “Sissy” Farmer, is a rising senior from Los Angeles, California and is spending her summer as an intern for the National Football League (NFL). She is also the only female athlete (Track and Field) in the five-year MBA program.

“Congratulations to Ms. Ka’ena Farmer for obtaining this unique internship opportunity and learning experience. We know that Ms. Farmer will do an excellent job representing her ‘Home by the Sea’ this summer,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.

Farmer is a Football Operations intern and is working in the player engagement and business strategy units within the department. She is working on various projects from conducting an outing for the department, to helping create the legends program Manuel, a program where former players work at the league office.

Farmer first discovered the internship opportunity at the 2018 NFL forum in Atlanta where she had the chance to meet different NFL executives. While in Atlanta, she was part of the first ever Career Forum Case Study Championship Team where she had the task of marketing and promoting for a team. This included game day, tailgating, international fans and team sales. “Winning this case competition showed me that my passion is football and more particularly, Football Operations,” Farmer said.

In order to gain the internship, Farmer had to be picked for an interview, go through various interview rounds and meet with more NFL executives. “I felt that my passion, diversity and innovation is what set me apart and landed me this internship. I’m excited to spend the summer in New York City to live football operations’ mission in ‘ensuring football is the greatest game,’” Farmer said.

Farmer will stay in New York City for a total of 10 weeks.
