Hampton University to Host COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic for Faculty and Staff April 20-22

HAMPTON,VA. (April 19, 2021) — The Hampton University Mobile Testing and Vaccination Unit will be administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to members of the HU faculty and staff from 9:00 am to 4:00pm, beginning April 20 – 22, 2021. Appointments are required. The Mobile Health Unit will be parked in Lot 21, the parking lot across from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, for each clinic session. All faculty and staff who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Dr. Michelle Penn-Marshall, Vice President for Research is the event organizer. Nurse Shakina Meredith, serves as clinic lead, and Dr. Aviance Lewis, HU’s Community Vaccination Coordinator, serves as the clinic manager. Hampton University providing the Pfizer vaccine to its faculty and staff is another example of the institution doing its part to serve the region and help combat the deadly coronavirus. On March 1, Hampton University unveiled its new mobile testing and vaccination unit that will provide COVID-19 screenings and vaccinations to people in underserved areas of Hampton Roads. On March 20 and April 17th, the university hosted two Hampton University Community COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics through partnerships with the Virginia Department of Health and Riverside Health System, where 439 individuals received the Moderna vaccine. The HU Mobile Testing and Vaccination Unit was on site, April 17 from 9 AM to 4 PM at St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church’s “Vaccines and COVID-19 Testing Drive” in Portsmouth, Va. The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute was also on site to providing RT-PCR COVID-19 testing for the citizens of Portsmouth. On Saturday, April 24, the HU Mobile Testing and Vaccination Unit will be in Norfolk in partnership with the Hispanic Resource Center of Coastal Virginia, directed by Dr. Elizabeth Torres.
In December of 2020, Dr. Harvey and other local leaders received the COVID-19 vaccine to publicly support taking the vaccine and encourage the African American community to take it as well.
