Investiture of TSU President Dr. Lesia Crumpton-Young

Texas Southern University will formally swear in its 13th president, Dr. Lesia L. Crumpton-Young, as part of an investiture ceremony on Saturday, April 30, 2022. The investiture, typically held within a president’s first year in office, represents a significant milestone in the life of Texas Southern University, as it is one of the oldest traditions in academia. President Crumpton-Young’s investiture honors TSU’s academic tradition, celebrating its institutional history and symbolizing a new era of transformation in the life of the University.
What: Investiture of Dr. Lesia L. Crumpton-Young, 13th President of Texas Southern University
Who: Honorable Albert H. Myres, Chair of the TSU Board of Regents, is presiding officer during the ceremony. Dr. Lesia L. Crumpton-Young, TSU President; pecial greetings from elected officials, including Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Rep. Al Green, Rep. Sylvia Garcia, and Mayor Sylvester Turner. TSU faculty, staff, students and alumni will be represented during the investiture. Other special guests who will provide personal reflections on President Crumpton-Young include:
- Honorable Raumesh Akbari, Senator, Tennessee Assembly
- Dr. Rhonda R. Franklin, McKnight Presidential Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Minnesota
- Delphine Caudle Wharton, Senior Vice President, Private Client Service, City National Bank of Florida
- Paula Harris, Executive Director, Houston Astros Foundation
- Dr. Howard G. Adams, former Director, GEM Foundation
- Dr. Glenda Glover, President, Tennessee State University
TSU Regents (Honorable Marc C. Carter and Honorable Carolyn Baker Hurley) will administer the oath of office. Chairman Myres, Regent Carter, and Dr. Lillian B. Poats, Acting Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, will present President Crumpton-Young with the Presidential Medallion, also known as the Chain of Office.
Delegates representing other universities, including the presidents of Alcorn State University (Dr. Felecia M. Nave), Prairie View A&M University (Dr. Ruth J. Simmons), Savannah State University (Ms. Kimberly Ballard-Washington), St. Philip’s College (Dr. Adena Williams Loston), Tennessee State University (Dr. Glenda Glover), and University of Houston-Clear Lake (Dr. Loren Blanchard), are expected to attend.
