Jamila Mustafa to be Spring 2020 Commencement Speaker
International award-winning broadcast journalist, host, and actress Jamila Mustafa will be the commencement speaker for Bennett’s virtual graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m EST.
Mustafa is the official host of MTV Network’s “Fresh Out Live” and “Fresh Out Playlist”. She has been a correspondent for FOX, iHeartMedia, BET Networks and ESPN 2, hosted live audiences of more than 80,000, and has sat down with political leaders like Congresswoman Maxine Waters and entertainers such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Issa Rae, Lil Wayne, Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Hart, and Taraji P. Henson to name a few.
The former Miss Delaware State University and four-time pageant queen is one of the most decorated millennials of our time, having received four resolutions from city councils in Delaware and a letter of recognition from former Senator and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, and was recently named one of the “Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40” by the United Nations.
Bennett is “family” to Mustafa: Her grandmother, Fannie Carroll, was a graduate of the Class of 1949 and served as the class secretary.
