Lincoln’s Maria Diamond & Troy Whyte Named MIAA Athletes of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced on Tuesday (April 11) that Lincoln hurdlers Maria Diamond and Troy Whyte were its track athletes of the week.
Diamond became just the second Division II athlete to clear the minute mark in the 400-meter hurdles with her victory at the Lincoln Open on Saturday (April 8). Diamond won the event with a provisional time of 59.63 that leads the MIAA and ranks second in the country. Diamond also helped Lincoln set a provisional time in the 4×400-meter relay as the Blue Tigers won in 3:46.19, the third-quickest mark in the MIAA and ninth-fastest in the nation.
Whyte set the fastest time in NCAA Division II with his win in the 400-meter hurdles at the Lincoln Open this past Saturday. Whyte won with a provisional time of 50.73. He also helped Lincoln win the 4×400 meter relay in 3:11.47 for a provisional mark that ranks second in the MIAA and sixth in the nation.
This is the third MIAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award for Diamond, who also earned the recognition on March 29, 2022 and April 12, 2022. This is the first MIAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award for Whyte.
Both the Lincoln women’s and men’s track & field teams will be in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday and Saturday (April 14-15) for the Kansas Relays, hosted by the University of Kansas.
