MEAC Family mourns the loss of North Carolina Central Football Student-Athlete
NORFOLK, Va., August 5, 2024 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) joins the North Carolina Central University family in mourning a fellow Eagle, Terrence Howard, who passed away on Thursday, August 1.
Howard, recruited to play at Alabama by then head coach Nick Saban, transferred to N.C. Central following the 2023 football season after securing a full scholarship to play for the Eagles.
Howard, who was moving to the Raleigh-Durham Triangle, was struck by a passing vehicle after being involved in a minor traffic accident on Interstate I-85 on Monday, July 29. The 19-year-old Houston, Texas native passed away several days later after being admitted to a Charlotte, N.C. hospital for critical injuries.
Howard’s family says they received an outpouring of support from North Carolina Central University and the University of Alabama. The family says former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has also reached out to them.
The MEAC sends our heartfelt condolences to Terrence’s family and friends, and will update MEAC Nation with funeral details when they become available.
