Mile Relay Wins Houston Invitational, Women’s Track & Field Has 7 Top-10 Marks At Houston Invitational

The Texas Southern women’s track & field team had a strong weekend on the track led by the mile relay team winning the Houston Invitational Title on Friday.
The mile relay team featuring Rayah Wynn, Madison Dominguez, Tardranique London and Shelby Brooks won the title with a time of 3:50.84. As a result, the team now has the second-fastest time in the SWAC.
Brooks, the reigning SWAC Runner of the Week, placed second in the 400 (56.75) while Madison Dominguez placed seventh (57.79) in the same event followed by Rayah Wynn’s 10th-place finish (58.62). Brooks also placed 10th in the 200 in a time of 25.07.
Even though they didn’t place in the top 10 on Friday, several runners moved up the charts in the SWAC. Lillie Burnett’s time of 25.37 moved her to ninth overall in the 200 along with Kayla Jenkins’ (10th) mark of 9.10 in the 60-meter hurdles. Pole vaulter Ryann Richards is fourth overall after a 10-2 mark in the pole vault and 10th in the long jump (17-5.25).
In the field, Skyla Faux threw personal best of 44-6 to finish ninth in the shot put and second overall in the SWAC while Phylan Perkins posted the SWAC’s top mark as she finished fifth in the weight throw after a mark of 57-5.75.
TSU returns to action in two weeks on Feb. 10 at the Howie Ryan Invitational at Yeoman Fieldhouse in Houston.
