NCCU Operating Under Condition 1 January 23-27 Effective
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for central N.C., including Durham and surrounding areas, effective Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, through Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. There is potential for wintry precipitation, including freezing rain and sleet, and concerns for power outages and dangerously cold temperatures persisting into early next week.
The university will operate under Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy on Friday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m., through Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 11:59 p.m. University leadership will continue to assess conditions in and around campus and issue guidance on Sunday, Jan. 25, if the Condition status will be revised.
Residential students are strongly encouraged to leave campus and shelter at home or with family/friends by noon on Friday, Jan. 23, prior to the onset of hazardous conditions. Students remaining on campus must complete the Remain-on-Campus Notification provided by Residential Life.
CAMPUS OPERATIONS UPDATES
SATURDAY and SUNDAY, JAN. 24-25
- If conditions require relocation, students will be directed to report to a designated on-campus location. An Eagle Alert will notify students of the need and process to relocate. Do not relocate on-campus unless instructed.
- Academic Affairs: Scheduled classes will be held virtually.
- Campus Dining: Pearson Dining Hall will be open:
- Brunch 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
- Dinner 5:30-7:30 p.m.
- Transportation: NCCU Campus Shuttle will not operate its normal schedule. NCCU shuttles and vans will be on standby to transport students between designated locations, to be communicated via the PassioGo app and email.
- NCCU Student Center: Scheduled activities cancelled.
MONDAY and TUESDAY, JAN. 26-27
