Norfolk State University Welcomes Celebrity Keynote Speakers Including CEO of Ebony Magazine, Michele Ghee, and Charlamagne tha God for its Annual Mass Communications and Journalism Week

Norfolk State University’s Mass Communications and Journalism Department hosts its annual MCJR Week April 4-8, 2022, with a roster of A-list celebrities in the media industry. MCJR Week serves as a platform to connect media stars, alumni and students eager to begin their careers. Professional workshops and panel discussions are used to spark the minds of future media moguls through beneficial interactions and first-hand knowledge. Students are granted networking opportunities and meaningful inspiration by individuals with real world experience and achievements.

The week will feature a variety of informative and interactive events. Monday will kick off MCJR Week starting with a Media Career Skills Session including notable panelists such as Fashion PR Director, Voiceover Actor and Creative Director, Aneesha DuBois. BK Fulton, Chairman of Soulidifly.com and SoulVision Magazine, joins the Spartan family on Tuesday, April 5. At the peak of MCJR Week, special guest Michele Ghee, CEO of Ebony Magazine, will make an appearance at an exclusive MCJR Awards Luncheon. Also, Celebrity Publicist, Nikkia McClain, will be a panelist in the #PIVOT Session on Wednesday.

Actor and Filmmaker, Zeus Campbell will be the presenter for #BLACKFLIX with Zeus. A Conversation with
Charlamagne tha God will be hosted by Award Winning TV Host, April Woodard on Thursday, April 7. This spotlight event will be free and open to the public. Students, alumni and the community will have the opportunity to attend this highly anticipated event and receive media career advice from Charlamagne tha God himself. The special lecture will be held at the L. Douglas Wilder Center of Performing Arts from 3:30-5:30 p.m. MCJR Week will wrap up with #BALLIN, a panel discussion highlighting media in the sports industry. Panelists include Editorial Director for Talent at The Athletic, Leon Carter, and Director of Communications NFLPA, Carl Francis. NSU Alumna Maia Chaka, the first Black woman to officiate an NFL game, will be a panelist as well.

The pandemic has impacted us all in more ways than imaginable. NSU and the MCJR Department are eager to
reintroduce MCJR Week to the students and community.
