Hampton University Science Graduate Heading to Sweden

HAMPTON, Va. (May 14, 2019) – Hampton University graduating senior, Olivera Stojilovic, from Novi Sad, Serbia, is heading to Sweden for graduate school with a full-ride scholarship. A Marine and Environmental Science major in the Hampton University School of Science, international student and a Lady Pirate volleyball athlete, Stojilovic, is graduating with a 3.88 GPA, and will be attending graduate school at Lund University, where she will be majoring in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science.

Stojilovic received a full-ride, four-year scholarship to attend Hampton University, and to play on the volleyball team. She also spent one season on the sailing team. Now, her focus will be on her studies during her graduate program at Lund University.

“I am passionate about the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, which are things like world hunger, peace on the planet, gender equality, etc., so my master’s is intertwined with answering how to achieve those. I really want to make a positive impact on our society,” said Stojilovic. “I also want to pursue a Ph.D. and I would love to attend the University of Amsterdam, but we will see what happens in the future.”

While at Hampton, Stojilovic was a member of the Strategies for Ecology Education, Development and Sustainability (SEEDS) Program, the marine science club, was President of the International Office, attended the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography conference, and even traveled to Egypt.

Stojilovic will leave Hampton with great memories, and boundless knowledge that no one can ever take away from her. “I once read a book while at Hampton, and it said, ‘a tree doesn’t make a forest.’ It showed me what people can do when they work together. Hampton taught me how to depend on people and try to get the best out of them. I learned to value myself while valuing others. That’s why I think Hampton has become my forest,” Stojilovic said.
