Voorhees Prepares To Launch Its First Fully Online Degree Program

(Denmark, S.C.) – Voorhees College proudly announces beginning July 1,
students may enroll in the first fully online degree program in business
administration for the Fall 2019 semester.

The online Bachelor of Science degree program in business
administration was approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and accredited by the
Association of College Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). In
addition, the program will offer concentrations in general business and
finance.

New applicants, community college graduates, transfer students who
reside in the institution’s designated service area, and former Voorhees College students, who did not complete a bachelor’s degree adults desiring to complete their college degrees and recent high school graduates or GED recipients looking for a nontraditional learning environment will be the initial primary recruitment targets. However, students from all over the nation are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Voorhees College Veterans Resource Center will also recruit current and retired members of the military, their dependents, and civilian employees working on area bases including: Joint Base Air Force Charleston, Shaw Air Force Base, Fort Jackson Army Base, MCAS Beaufort Marine Corps Base, MCRD Parris Island Marine Corps Base, NWS Charleston Navy Base, Fort Gordon Army Base, and Hunter Army Airfield Army Base.

President W. Franklin Evans said in order to remain relevant and competitive, Voorhees College must develop and implement strategic actions to expand program offerings, including initiating distance education programs as a viable option.

“The institution’s rich heritage and its current multicultural student-centered focus provide a firm foundation for this endeavor. Hence the proposed online program seeks to serve the needs and aspirations
of individuals by preparing graduates for leadership roles and life-long learning and by contributing to the development of the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators,” Evans said.

Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said the institution’s 2017-2022 strategic plan articulates the need to “assess and offer relevant, meaningful, and cutting-edge curricula.”

“The decision to develop an online degree program stemmed from a desire by the College’s faculty and administrators to create avenues that would expand students’ alternatives to the traditional classroom setting and tailor their educational delivery in a manner that is best suited for their real-life situations,” Hopkins said.
