PVAMU to Break Ground on New Teaching & Support Building

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M University is set to break ground on its newest campus addition—the Teaching & Academic Student Support Services Building—on Friday, March 28. Designed to centralize critical student services, this state-of-the-art facility underscores PVAMU’s commitment to enhancing student success, retention, and academic achievement.

The 42,082-square-foot, two-story building will bring together Undergraduate Studies, Academic Engagement and Student Success, Career Services, the Career Closet, the Testing Center, the Tutoring Center, and the Writing Center under one roof. The facility will provide a streamlined, one-stop support system for students, making essential resources more accessible.

Located near Anderson Hall, Evans Hall, and the Willie A. Tempton, Sr. Memorial Student Center, the new building will enhance campus connectivity and convenience. It will feature a spacious two-story lobby with seating, a check-in desk, and a monumental staircase. Other highlights include dual conference rooms/classrooms, active learning classrooms, an Industry Partner Lounge, and dedicated spaces for academic and career support. The second floor will house office suites for student support staff, a student lounge, and the Testing Center.

This project aligns with the 2000 Priority Plan, a collaboration between the Committee on Office for Civil Rights, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the Governor’s Office to strengthen educational opportunities at PVAMU. The plan called for a centralized hub for student affairs, enrollment, and academic support functions—now realized in this new facility.

Construction on the $45 million project is scheduled to begin this month, with substantial completion expected by November 2026.

The last major campus addition was the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering’s Engineering Classroom and Research Building (ENCARB), a $70 million project completed in summer 2023.

The new Teaching & Academic Student Support Services Building will further PVAMU’s mission to provide students with the resources they need to excel.
