Shaw University’s divinity school dean featured during Religious Emphasis Week
RALEIGH — A little something for everyone during Shaw University Religious Emphasis Week from Jan. 30-Feb. 3.
Shaw University Divinity School Dean Mark Harden, Ph.D., will preach at 11 a.m. Feb. 1 during a service in Thomas J. Boyd Chapel. He’s deriving his message about the faith experience from Numbers 13.
“I ask the theological question: ‘How do we have faith during challenging times?’” Harden said.
Harden is an ordained Baptist minister whose interdisciplinary approaches shape church ministries, congregational and community-based ministries, as well as personal and spiritual development studies in theological education.
Those attending the service are encouraged to wear African or ethnic attire for an opportunity to compete in a best-dressed contest.
On Feb. 3 in the chapel, Portia Rochelle, D.Min, will preach during the Shaw University School of Divinity Chapel Service. Rochelle is an assistant professor of religion in the divinity school.
Both chapel services are open to both the community and general public.
Individuals dropping by the chapel for prayer Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon may also grab a doughnut to go.
The outreach opportunity for Religious Emphasis Week is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Food Bank of Eastern & Central North Carolina.
