Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Host HBCU Quiz Bowl

The Eagles of North Carolina Central University claimed a first place victory last month during an HBCU quiz bowl competition to raise money for scholarships and athletic programs.  Raising money to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) is a call to action required to sustain these beloved institutions for generations to come.   North Carolina HBCU graduates of Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated answered the call to raise money for their alma maters.  Teams from Fayetteville State University, North Carolina A&T State University,North Carolina Central University and Winston Salem State University battled it out for the first-place prize of a scholarship donation and five tickets to their alma mater’s homecoming football game.  This is in collaboration with the international program initiative, “HBCU for Life:A Call for Action” launched by the International President, Dr. Glenda Glover,in 2018.

The teams were a representation of “brains and beauty” with a pride that could only be described as phenomenal. During the competition, the teams volleyed back and forth answering questions, while bantering from the audience made it clear that there were proud alumni in the building. Each team gave a valiant performance but, in the end, only one team walked away with the donation and bragging rights. The second-place winner was Fayetteville State University. This HBCU Quiz Bowl was the Beta test of the national launch of the HBCU Trivia Game and HBCU Quiz Bowl scheduled to be launched nationally in September of 2019 during HBCU week.

The HBCU Quiz Bowl is a signature event of Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. HBCU For Life: A Call to Action committee in partnership with HBCU Trivia Game Founders.
