Texas Southern Gives Free COVID-19 Tests to Students
Texas Southern University is giving free Covid-19 tests to its students, faculty and staff for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. That’s thanks to a $25 million donation to several Historical Black Colleges and Universities across the country. Massachusetts-based Thermo Fisher Scientific’s donation will provide Covid-19 test kits, diagnostic equipment and other supplies to the schools, according to a press release. In addition, TSU received a $1.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which will fund new personnel and other expenses in the test-giving process.
The Thermo Fisher Scientific donation will also go toward technical assistance for TSU, which is becoming a testing hub to test samples from other HBCUs in Texas. That includes Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Prairie View A&M University near Houston and Texas College in Tyler. #HBCU4Life
