United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell to host panel discussion and HBCU episode preview at Morehouse on April 23
W. Kamau Bell, host of the critically-acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning CNN Original Series, United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell, will preview the show’s “HBCU Episode” at Morehouse College from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 23 and moderate a panel discussion following the show. The episode includes interviews with faculty, students, and staff from the Atlanta University Center.
The event is open only to faculty, students, staff, and alumni from the Atlanta University Center.
United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell follows sociopolitical comedian W. Kamau Bell as he explores communities across the country, using humor to start a conversation about race and how our differences unite and divide us. In season three, Bell visits the coast of South Carolina to meet the Gullah Geechee people, travels to Hawaii to talk to natives, heads up north to Canada, meets with students at Historical Black Colleges and Universities, explores Sikhism in America, talks to members of the disabled community, and visits his dad in Mobile, Alabama to retrace his family roots.
In the “HBCU” Episode, Bell travels the country to learn about the history and importance of HBCUs. He begins his journey at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, the first HBCU to award diplomas. While there, he learns about the art of stepping. He also sits down with CNN frat brother Marc Lamont Hill to discuss the necessary state of HBCUs and how the future is dependent on giving back to these unique institutions. Next, he travels to Atlanta to find out about the “Morehouse Man” and meets a former classmate of Dr. Martin Luther King. After Morehouse, he visits Spelman College to learn more about its efforts to represent the LGBTQ community. Bell finishes his collegiate journey at Morris Brown College and sits down with fellow CNN personality, Angela Rye, who explains what schools need.
United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell is produced by Main Event Media and All3Media America with Bell, Jimmy Fox, Donny Jackson, Gregory J. The new season begins on Sunday, April 29, at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.The series will regularly air Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CNN.
