Voorhees alumnus performs at the 2019 BET Award Show

June 25, (2019) Alumnus Jamal Josef, who had an opportunity to choreograph sections to a few Beyoncé songs for her performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, recently danced at the 2019 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award Show.

Josef danced in the opening act for the award show that featured host Regina Hall. The performance was a parody of “Coachella” with a DC Go-go twist.” He performed for more than three minutes on stage with Taraji P. Henson, Regina Hall, and Sugar Bear. The performance was to Kool Moe Dee’s “Do you know what time it is,” E. U.’s “Da Butt,” and Chuck Brown’s “Run Joe.”

Josef said this was his first time performing on the main stage of an award show. “It was a cool and hardworking opportunity. I was able to reconnect with some old friends and meet some new artists. I met Fantasia, Marsha Ambrosius, Kelly Price, and Billy Ray Cyrus. While I was in the middle of taking pictures, Billy Ray asked if could he jump in the next one,” Josef said.

He added the entire experience was mind blowing, and he cannot wait to see what opportunities come his way next.

Josef earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Voorhees in 2010. He was a member of the Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served as step master and president, president of Model Troupe, captain of the Voorhees College Dance Team, and a member of the Voorhees College Concert Choir.

Currently, Josef resides in Los Angeles and choreographs for a variety of music artists and projects
