Denmark, S.C. – South Carolina State Senator Darrell Jackson, Attorney Leslie Simpson, and Rev. Dr. Solomon Jackson Jr. were among seven people recently elected to serve on the Voorhees College Board of Trustees. Darrell Jackson also serves as senior pastor of the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road in Columbia. Attorney Simpson is a lobbyist for the South Carolina Association of Counties, and Solomon Jackson is a philanthropist and founding pastor of Solomon’s Temple in Columbia.

“The board of trustees has worked intentionally and arduously identifying new members to serve and guide Voorhees College,” said David Miller, chairman of the board. “As this slate of new board members will demonstrate, our recruitment efforts have produced a diverse group of highly capable leaders representing various backgrounds, experiences, geographic areas, and expertise.”

Other members selected to the board include John Loveday, vice president of Innovation and Growth at Rhodes Branding, in Columbia; Scott McGregor, who leads Cisco’s $150 million investment in Historically Black Colleges and Universities in partnership with the Student Freedom Initiative; Samuel Ntewusu, professor and research assistant at the University of Ghana, Accra, Ghana; and Nathaniel Miller, a political campaign strategist on the local, state and national levels.

“These new members will truly enhance our current board structure,” Miller said. “They are all committed to Voorhees College’s strategic aim and values, and most importantly, all demonstrate and possess excitement for this college’s (soon to be university’s) future. Our officers and entire board are proud to welcome them to service and thank them in advance for the contributions they will yield to the mighty white and blue!”
