Voorhees crowns the 2020 Homecoming King and Queen
Denmark, S.C.- The Voorhees College student body voted and selected Savanah Wright as Miss Homecoming and Devaunte McKee as Mr. Homecoming 2020 who will be recognized during the virtual Homecoming Parade of Alumni, Past Activities, and Special Recognitions beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. Wright, a 21-year-old junior majoring in child development, is a native of Mount Pleasant, S.C. She said her nomination makes her feel grateful. “My fellow tigers made the ‘Wright choice’ by selecting me to be Miss Homecoming 2020 and I will proudly wear my crown and represent Voorhees College.” She is a member of the Royal Diamond Dance Team.
After she graduates from Voorhees, Wright plans to pursue a master’s degree in early childhood education from Charleston Southern University. She aspires to become a kindergarten teacher to be instrumental in the beginning stages of education and development of young children. She is the daughter of John and Pamela Wright.
McKee, a 23-year-old senior majoring in biology, is a native of Greenwood,
S.C. He said his nomination feels like a dream come true and he is still in Devaunte McKee disbelief. “The opportunity proves my belief that “with Consistency comes success,” McKee said. “Previously, I ran for other positions and lost, but I never gave up and now I have made history within my family.”
He notes that he is the first in his family to graduate from high school and the first to attend college. McKee is a member of the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the senior class, where he serves as business manager, TRIO Student Support Services Program, and serves as a Career Pathways Initiative ambassador.
After graduation, McKee plans to pursue a master’s degree from the Medical University of South Carolina or the University of Alabama. He aspires to become a cardiovascular physician’s assistant so he can help his family live a healthier lifestyle and be more proactive with some of their heart challenges.
He is the son of Lakia Tolbert and the grandson of Annie Childs.
