Voorhees St. Philip’s Chapel Implements Alternative Brunch Program

Denmark, S.C.- The St. Philip’s Episcopal Congregation, located on campus, recently received some funding from The Episcopal Church in South Carolina to support the Alternative Sunday Brunch Program for Voorhees College students, which is held once a month from August-November and January-April.

The purpose of the Alternative Sunday Brunch is to invite students to the worship service beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning and then enjoy a good meal with group discussion immediately following the service. The St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Congregation has welcomed this program also as an opportunity for outreach ministry to the students on campus.

Father James Yarsiah, chaplain and vicar, said this is an opportunity for students to worship and learn more about their spirituality and faith. “We will have Sunday service, eat brunch,and participate in mini teachings and discussions about what is happening in the world. Any topics that affect the students they can bring it to the table and receive spiritual guidance.”

President W. Franklin Evans said a part of Voorhees’ mission is to produce highly qualified graduates who coalesce intellect and faith in pursuit of life-long learning, healthy living, the betterment of society, and an abiding faith in God. The Alternative Brunch Program is a wonderful opportunity to support the mission by getting students involved in the Church.”

Students can sign up for the monthly brunch with sign-up sheets that are located in the café, dormitories,and the chapel. The sign-in sheet for the September brunch will be available as soon as Monday, August 26.
