Voorhees staff member is appointed acting VP of IAD

Denmark, S.C.- Voorhees College staff member Dwayne Smiling was recently appointed by President W. Franklin Evans to serve as the acting vice president for the Division of Institutional Advancement and Development (IAD).

In April 2017, Smiling joined the Voorhees College family as the Director of Career Pathways Initiative (CPI), where he served until January 2019. After serving as Director of CPI, Smiling became the manager for governmental relations/prospect research.

He began his career at Benedict College in 1997, serving in institutional advancement until 2013 in various positions such as faculty/staff campaign, United Negro College Fund (UNCF) coordinator, and director of governmental affairs.

From 2014-2017, Smiling worked as a Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Historical Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) –Undergraduate Program (UP) coordinator.

Smiling earned a bachelor’s degree from Benedict College in broadcast journalism.

He said he is very humbled yet excited to lead IAD. “I am very humbled yet excited to have been asked to lead the Division of IAD at this time.”Smiling is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Bible Way Church of Atlas Road in Columbia, S.C.
