Voorhees student is selected as a Collegiate Brother of the Year

Denmark, S.C.- Senior computer science major Donald Lauer IV was recently selected as the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. South Eastern Region “Collegiate Brother of the Year.” The “Collegiate Brother of the Year” is selected from the eligible collegiate members located in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Eastern Tennessee. This award is also based on academic excellence and campus involvement. Lauer joined the fraternity in the Fall of 2019 after joining the Voorhees Zeta Gamma chapter. He said he knew he wanted to be a brother and exemplify the fraternity’s principles and ideals. “To be named Collegiate Brother of the Year was a great surprise, and I was excited when I found out. I am glad that hard work continues to serve a purpose,” Lauer said. “My parents have always taught me to be the best at everything I can be, so I do what I need to do, including achieving academic, personal, and professional excellence.” Marion Wright, director of student affairs and advisor of the Zeta Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., said as Donald’s advisor, the achievement voices his sentiment for such a Voorhees College scholar. “Donald is president of the collegiate chapter at VC, baseball player, a presidential scholar, and a member of the W. Franklin Evans Honors College, to name a few. This is one example of how social and academic work can pay off.” Lauer is a native of Summerville, S.C. After graduation, he said he plans to attend graduate school or enroll in the United States Navy. He is the son of Donald Lauer III and Danylle.
