ATLANTA, Ga. (October 25, 2022) – Destinee Langston (Savannah State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Weekwhile Sarah Rosario (Fort Valley State) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Jazmyne Jones (Lane) was also tabbed Setter of the Week alongside Allena Norton (Savannah State) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Destinee Langston, Savannah State
Outside Hitter | Junior | Fayetteville, GA

Junior outside hitter Destinee Langston helped lead Savannah State to a new school record 11 conference wins this week. The Lady Tigers finished 2-1 in three SIAC matches this week. Langston led the offense with a combined 43 kills with only 10 errors, 39 digs and 40 points—recording a double-double in two of the week’s matches.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Rosario, Fort Valley State
Libero | Sophomore | Bayamon, P.R.

Rosario led the FVSU defense finishing 2-1 last week. The sophomore libero recorded seven assists, two aces and 56 digs in 13 sets. In an upset win at Savannah State, she had a season-high 26 digs to go with two assists and an ace. In an exciting five-set comeback against Benedict, Rosario had 16 digs and two assists.

SETTER OF THE WEEK – Jazmyne Jones, Lane
Setter | Senior | Missouri City, TX

An injury forced Jones to play setter in every set of every match this week. She led the Dragons to four conference wins and finished with 152 assists. She added seven aces and 37 digs.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Allena Norton, Savannah State
Middle Hitter | Freshman | Chapin, S.C.

True freshman Allena Norton earned a starting role in her debut season. This week, the freshman helped lead SSU to a new school record 11 conference wins. The Lady Tigers finished 2-1 in three SIAC matches this week. Norton ended with a combined 36 kills, 10 errors, 44 points on offense and 16 digs and six blocks on defense. Norton has the 3rd best hitting percentage in the conference (.292).
