Winston-Salem State Athletics Department Announces Partnership with Influxer for NIL Merchandise

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C – The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics has announced a partnership with Influxer to allow its student-athletes to monetize their name, image and likeness (NIL) through personalized merchandise.

Influxer is an officially licensed vendor, creating co-branded apparel customized with players’ names and numbers. Through this partnership, Influxer will provide education and training on marketing, entrepreneurship, and personal branding. All lines of merchandise will be sold via Influxer’s platform,

“I am excited about the opportunity for WSSU student-athletes to be able to capitalize on their name, image, and likeness (NIL) via the Influxer platform,” said Director of Athletics, Etienne Thomas. “They will have individual pages with merchandise they can choose to market to friends, family, alumni, and their fans and receive a return on the investment of their efforts. All revenue payments are paid directly by Influxer quarterly.” 

“Although NIL deals for Division II student-athletes are not as prevalent yet platforms like Influxer, provide an opportunity to enhance the experience of our SAs, for us to compete differently in recruiting, and for our SAs to increase their businesses and tax skills operations knowledge while still enrolled.”

Justin Fleming a rising senior from the WSSU football team was one of the first student-athletes who signed up and is excited for this opportunity.

“Influxer has opened the door for me and my teammates which has helped with creating opportunities that extend beyond the game and benefit not just ourselves but our entire team,” said Fleming.

Every WSSU student-athlete will have the opportunity to take full advantage of this experience. The Influxer team will manage and fulfill all the customer service and collaborate with the student-athletes to create their pages.

Etienne Thomas and the administration have been extremely diligent in not only emphasizing the end product of the opportunity but also recognizing the business experience the process brings to student-athlete development.”

Additionally, Influxer will create a position for a WSSU student-athlete to manage a WSSU social media page with all of the student-athlete inventory.
