Women’s Soccer Blue Tigers Beat Harris Stowe in Battle of Missouri’s HBCUs
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Lincoln women’s soccer continues to remain unbeaten after defeating Harris Stowe, 1-0, in a contest between Missouri’s two HBCUs on Friday night (Sept. 13). The victory improved the Blue Tigers to 4-0 in their first-ever season in program history.
At the 36:37 mark of the first half, Ivanna Faria broke away and made a crossing shot off a pass by Francesca Tucci-Haack that found the bottom left of corner of the net for the match’s only score. Lincoln maintained a dominant edge on the offensive side of the field, attempting 14 shots overall compared to eight by Harris Stowe (2-3-1). The Hornets managed to try just two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Michelle Granja, who picked up her second shutout victory of the season.
Faria, Angela Reynolds and Grace Larson each finished with two shots on goal apiece. Larson led the Blue Tigers with four shots overall and Reynolds and Faria each recorded three while Jaelyn Drake finished with two. Tucci-Haack and Faith Wylie had LU’s other shots.
The Blue Tigers will open GLVC play on Sunday (Sept. 15) as Lincoln travels to Rolla, Mo. to play Missouri S&T at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
