Jefferson City, MO- Lincoln University has opened the Blue Tiger Resource Center to meet student needs outside of the classroom.  Housed on the lower level of Scruggs University Center, the Blue Tiger Resource Center will include a food pantry and clothing closet with apparel for students and children.  The center will also offer limited school supplies. Hours for the Blue Tiger Resource Center are Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., but may be adjusted based on convenience for the students.

With more than 90% of the University’s student population relying on some sort of financial assistance to cover the cost of attending college, their needs expand beyond reaching their academic goals.  According to 2018 data from Feeding America, there were 813,840 food insecure people in Missouri, and 49,630 of those in Cole, Boone, Callaway, Cooper, Howard, Maries, Miller, Morgan, Moniteau and Osage Counties.  New projections by Feeding America suggest 1 in 8 are dealing with food insecurity as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.  Along with food insecurity, low-income families and individuals experience a host of other issues that impact a student’s ability to learn.

The Blue Tiger Resource Center received a clothing donation to begin the closet from the Teamsters National Black Caucus in Bridgeton, Missouri.  Faculty, staff and student donations have helped start up the food pantry. Sodexo has contributed $1,000. All donations are welcomed and encouraged. To schedule a donation delivery, contact Earnest Washington at WashingtonE@LincolnU.edu. Financial donations are tax deductible and can be made online at https://donatetolincoln.securepayments.cardpointe.com/pay.
