Lincoln University of Missouri Graduates 5 New Law Enforcement Officers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Lincoln University graduated five new law enforcement professionals at a commencement ceremony Dec. 16 in Pawley Theater on the LU campus. The newly minted officers make up the second class to complete the program of LU’s Law Enforcement Training Academy. Lincoln launched its training center earlier this year, the first historically Black college and university to house its own police academy.

The new graduates are: Alexander Jackson Griggs of Tipton, Mo.; Bailey Scott Johnmeyer of Eldon, Mo.; Brianna Amber Marie Johnson of Denver, Co.; Danielle Pearl Skiles of New Bloomfield, Mo.; and Maxx Charles Walker of Kansas City, Mo.

“The vision of this program was designed to help you go into communities with a more diverse mindset, an inclusive skillset and the ability to provide a higher level of community care,” University Interim President John Moseley told the graduates. “You will be the beacon of diversity that we all need in our nation.”

Cadets receive hands-on, practical training in a variety of situations including domestic violence calls, traffic stops, burglary scenarios, crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. The evolving curriculum will include such innovations as virtual reality simulators for future classes, says Academy Director Gary Hill.

“We know you are already brave,” Moseley said in his address to the graduates, lauding the new officers’ flexibility and patience. “You will be police officers that we are already proud of. You will demonstrate your own incredible purpose in response to every call of duty.”
