UNCASVILLE, Conn. – The Norfolk State men’s basketball team (7-6) started off the Chris Paul HBCU Classic in perfect fashion, dominating wire-to-wire in a 71-54 victory over Alabama State (4-7) on Thursday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Leading the Spartans with 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds, Brian Moore Jr. earned Most Valuable Player honors for the game. Jalen Myers added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Norfolk State set a commanding tone right out of the gate, scoring the game’s first six points. Myers recorded the Spartans’ first two baskets, both on hustle plays after securing an offensive rebound.

Delaware State def. Grambling (SWAC) – 73-60

UNCASVILLE, CT —
The Delaware State men’s basketball team shot 50 percent from deep on the way to a 73-60 win against the Grambling Tigers at Mohegan Sun Arena Thursday.

The Hornets (6-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Robert Smith, who had 16 points and four assists. Martaz Robinson added 15 points, six rebounds and two steals and Muneer Newton helped out with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Delaware State out-rebounded Grambling 36-33 in Thursday’s game, led by Newton’s 10 boards. The Hornets also grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points.

The Delaware State defense held Grambling shooters to only 37.9 percent from the field, including 16.7 percent from three-point range.
