Musician Fonzworth Bentley set to host the 2020 Virtual Homecoming After Party

Denmark, S.C.- Producer, musician, author, and philanthropist Derek
“Fonzworth Bentley” Watkins will serve as the host for the Virtual
Homecoming 2020 After Party on Friday, Nov. 13 from 7 p.m.-8 p.m.
via the institution’s Facebook and YouTube’s live streams.
Named by “GQ magazine” as the First Gentleman of Hip Hop,
Fonzworth Bentley, born Derek Watkins, has a sense of style and
impeccable manners which have earned him a reputation as a man of
class and excellence as an artist, a fashion expert, and as a pop culture
figure.
Watkins’ work as executive music producer and choreographer for the
‘Juneteenth’ episode of “Blackish” won him the Guild of Music
Supervisors’ Award for Best Original Song for Television. The song,
“Juneteenth,” was co-written and produced by Watkins. Other
recognitions include a 2017 Best Choreography MTV “Moonman”
Award for Kanye West’s hit song “Fade.”
He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Morehouse College.
Watkins provides leadership coaching, strategic guidance and leverages
his vast network to assist them with capital and partnership
opportunities for growth.
Currently, Watkins serves on the Advisory Board for several early-stage startups and social enterprises.
They are led by award-winning entrepreneurs of color whose work has landed at The White House,
International Embassies, Forbes 30 under 30, Black Enterprise, Entrepreneur Magazine, U.S. Black
Engineers, and The Wall Street Journal.
Driven by a deep faith and motivated to inspire others, he supports numerous charities. He is a regular
lecturer on the college motivational speaking circuit, which inspired him to launch the Fonzworth Bentley
Leadership Institute to provide educational and mentoring opportunities for people of all ages and
socioeconomic backgrounds.
Watkins currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Faune, daughter, Zoie, and son, Daniel.
