Voorhees University Hosts Annual Absalom Jones Day Program

DENMARK, SC — Voorhees University will host its Annual Absalom Jones Day Program on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in St. Philip’s Chapel on the Voorhees University campus. The observance honors the life, faith, and enduring legacy of Absalom Jones, the first African-American priest ordained in the Episcopal Church.

The featured speaker for the program will be Luther E. Smith, Jr., Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Church and Community at Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Atlanta, GA). A distinguished scholar, author, and theologian, Dr. Smith is widely recognized for his work at the intersection of faith, social justice, and community transformation.

The Right Reverend Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, will serve as Celebrant for the service.
