If you’re a parent of a student-athlete, you’ve probably heard of name, image, and likeness (NIL). Basically, NIL provides student-athletes a pathway to entrepreneurship by monetizing their personal brand. A federally registered trademark through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) can help student-athletes protect their NIL.
At America’s Branding Agency, we are all in on supporting student-athletes on their NIL journey.
We built an NIL resource webpage, held special USPTO Hour webinars on NIL, and attended the 2026 NFL Draft® in Pittsburgh to offer NIL education in-person. Now, the USPTO has just released a series of NIL videos where agency trademark experts briefly explain in simple terms the commercial value of NIL and why federal trademark registration is important. You can find these videos on our NIL resource webpage and learn more about the exciting possibilities NIL and federal trademark registration can provide to student-athletes.
